E. J. OURSO COLLEGE ANNOUNCES 2008 HALL OF DISTINCTION INDUCTEES

LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business has announced that Edward A. Landry, Peggy Scott and James D. Shelton will be inducted into its Hall of Distinction. This select group will be honored during a ceremony to be held April 4, 2008 at 6 p.m. at the Lod Cook Alumni Center on LSU’s campus.

Edward A. Landry is a senior partner with the law firm Musick, Peeler & Garrett in Los Angeles, Calif. His 40-year career with the firm includes specializing in its probate and trust department as well as handling the estates of many prominent Californians, including that of J. Paul Getty.

In addition to his work with Musick, Peeler & Garrett, Landry is involved in many career related activities and has lectured at UCLA Law School, California Continuing Education of the Bar, the USC Estate Planning Institute, the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and various other programs and institutes. Landry is a member of the American, California and Los Angeles Bar Associations. He is a trustee of the Dan Murphy Foundation, the Flora L. Thornton Foundation, Harvey Mudd College, the Jaquelin Hume Foundation, Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens and the Walter Lantz Foundation.

A native of New Orleans, La., Landry earned his bachelor’s in business administration from LSU in 1961. He received his law degree from UCLA in 1964, where he was law school student body president, a member of the UCLA Law Review and elected to the Order of the Coif.

Scott is the executive vice president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana. Blue Cross is the largest health insurer in Louisiana with $1.8 billion in revenues. She has been in her current position since October 2005 and is responsible for finance, treasury, strategic and business planning, actuarial, underwriting, plan performance, member services, internal audit, administrative services and related areas.

Scott brings a wealth of executive management and finance experience to Blue Cross from General Health System in Baton Rouge, Novant Health Inc. in N.C. and, most recently, Pan-American Life Insurance Company in New Orleans, where she served as executive vice president of operations and finance. Prior to these positions, she had a distinguished career in public accounting and consulting with Deloitte and was the first woman ever designated as a managing partner of any Deloitte office since the firm's inception in 1895.

Additionally, she was honored as the 2004 National Financial Executive of the Year by Robert Half International and by Tulane University as its 2004 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year. Scott earned her bachelor's in accounting from LSU in 1973 and her MBA from Tulane in 1992.

Shelton is the chairman of Legacy Hospital Partners and the former CEO of Triad Hospitals in Plano, Texas. He founded Triad in 1999 by acquiring a group of hospitals from his former employer, the Hospital Corporation of America and previously held various executive positions with National Medical Enterprises. Collectively, he has been a hospital administrator in Missouri, Louisiana, Iowa, North Carolina, Georgia and Illinois.

Shelton serves on the board of the American Hospital Association and is also a member of its executive committee. He earned his bachelor’s in history from LSU in 1975 and his master’s in public administration from the University of Missouri in 1977.

Established in 1996, the E. J. Ourso College of Business Hall of Distinction recognizes individuals who make significant contributions in the areas of business, academia, government or the community. The Hall of Distinction is not strictly limited to LSU alumni, but nominees should have some connection with the college.
