After serving briefly as interim chair, Samuel Tiras has been named chair of the Department of Accounting in LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business.
Tiras, the department’s KPMG LLP Endowed Professor, joined the university’s faculty in the fall of 2007. He received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, has served as the Ph.D. director at SUNY Buffalo since 2001 and previously served on the faculty at the University of Oregon.
Asserting that he has been impressed with the quality of the accounting students, the high level of undergraduate education and the outstanding reputation of LSU’s Center for Internal Auditing, Tiras’ goal for the department is to “build on its successes by expanding the choices offered to the accounting master’s students and continuing to strengthen the Ph.D. program.
“The potential at LSU for growth is amplified by the loyal alumni and active participation of national and local CPA firms and industries,” Tiras said.
Tiras’ research has centered on the usefulness of accounting information to financial statement users. He has taught financial accounting to sophomores, juniors and seniors and at the master’s, MBA, EMBA and Ph.D. levels. Additionally, Tiras has been published in numerous journals, including The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Business and Finance and Accounting.
