    Areendam Chanda and Beatrice Farkas

LSU ECON PROFESSOR, PH.D. ALUM WIN EBES BEST PAPER AWARD

    June 2, 2011

ISTANBUL, Turkey—Areendam Chanda, John C. Hamilton Family Professor for Developing Scholars in the LSU Department of Economics, and Beatrice Farkas, an LSU Department of Economics Ph.D. graduate and research associate at the German Institute of Economic Research in Berlin, Germany, co-authored a paper that received the Best Paper Award during the Eurasia Business and Economics Society Annual Conference.

Chanda and Farkas’s paper “Technology-Skill Complementarity and International TFP Differences” received the award during a ceremony held today at the conference in  Turkey, which is eight hours ahead of Central Standard Time. The EBES conference is being held June 1-3 at the Taksim Nippon Hotel, and 247 papers by 456 colleagues from 53 countries are scheduled to be presented, according to the conference’s program.

“Beatrice presented the paper at the conference,” Chanda said. “She received her master’s in economics from LSU in 2004, after earning her bachelor’s from Babeş-Bolyai University in Romania in 2001. It has been a pleasure working with her and seeing her flourish.”

EBES conferences, which are open to all economics and business scholars and professionals around the world, assemble worldwide researchers and professionals and aim to increase economics and business knowledge through academic discussions.

The Department of Economics at LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business offers courses that provide its undergraduate and graduate students an intellectual challenge and strong analytic training and the tools to address the economic and social problems faced both domestically and internationally.
