BATON ROUGE – According to Forbes.com, the LSU Flores MBA Program in the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business ranks 31st in the country among public institutions, based on return on investment—meaning compensation five years after graduation minus tuition and the forgone salary during school. This year’s rankings by Forbes were based on the return on investment that graduates of the class of 2006 received.
“The LSU Flores MBA Program continues to prove that it is a strong value,” said E. J. Ourso College Dean Eli Jones. “In a time of great economic challenges and employment uncertainty, our graduates are thriving.”
For U.S. rankings, only two-year programs were eligible. LSU Flores MBA Program Director Ed Watson called the ranking “indicative of the value the LSU Flores MBA Program provides.”
“Rankings such as this always give us the opportunity to evaluate how we can improve,” Watson said. “We are constantly working to ensure our alumni and our students are receiving every benefit they can to make them competitive in the corporate and real-world arena.”
Forbes’ other aspects of its methodology in ranking the programs indicates that alumni were asked for their pre-M.B.A. salaries as well as compensation figures for three of the first five years after obtaining their degrees. Post-M.B.A. compensation was then compared with the graduates’ opportunity cost (tuition and forgone salary while in school) and what they would have made had they stayed in their old jobs.
Adjustments were made for cost-of-living expenses and earnings gains were discounted, using a rate tied to money market yields.
